Not so keen on partying up to smack terrorists around? You might want to mull over that Ghost Recon: Future Soldier preorder a little. Chatting to VGD at a preview event in London last week, Ubisoft’s Aziz Khater has called four-man co-op the ‘best’ way to play the new game.
‘To us,’ explained Khater, who is Product Manager on Future Soldier, ‘in order to have the players living the experience of a squad not a solo player, it’s something we really wanted to push in this opus, and we think that the real experience of Ghost Recon, this new Ghost Recon, you’re going to have the best of it if you play in co-op.’
This is all owing, naturally, to the characteristic Ghost Recon emphasis on team-play, which is said to be stronger than ever this time round. ‘What we wanted to push was this experience of not playing by yourself,’ Khater went on, ‘and giving orders to some kind of bots, but also trying to [recreate] the experience or feeling of being a Spec Ops, with a team of friends.’
The friend-deprived will still get a lot of love, though, thanks to ‘a brand new system of orders which we think work pretty well when you’re under fire’. Khater also commented that Future Soldier was geared firmly towards fans of the franchise, but would make room for developments in virtual marksmanship since Advanced Warfighter 2′s release in 2007, with all-new ‘action phases’ perhaps redolent of Modern Warfare.
